Two Yakima business owners offer ideas for lighter eating in 2024 | Explore Yakima

It’s not easy to maintain a new year’s resolution, but knowing there are options to help you along the way makes the transition manageable.

Sometimes our resolutions are a simple improvement in our habits, like eating more home-cooked meals or seeking out healthy options when we do eat out.

If you are seeking fresh, lighter fare, the number of businesses that offer healthful, quick food items has grown in recent years in the Yakima area.

Fiddle’s Juice bar co-owner Efrain Martinez recognizes the new year resolution bump.

“We do see more foot traffic during this time of the year,” Martinez said. “We also get a lot of customers ordering our three-day juice cleanse. It’s a great way to help reset your body from all the holiday food.”

The business has a variety of fresh cold press juices, immunity boosting ginger shots, enriching smoothies, along with flavor packed acai bowls, and quick healthy bites.

Fiddle’s Juice Bar, 806 W. Nob Hill Blvd. in Yakima, is open from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. There’s also a location in Wapato with juice and coffee options.

Looking to help community members with new year resolutions and year round, NUYU Juice Bar has two locations in Yakima.

“From March to September, there’s a consistent flow of patrons,” said NUYU owner Karissa Brandhagen.

“After the holiday season, filled with giving, hosting, and festive meals, the new year prompts a renewed focus on personal well-being. By March, our community is in full health mode and we’re ready to support our community in their pursuit of healthier lifestyles.”

NUYU Juice Bar Nob Hill, 2209 W. Nob Hill Blvd., is open 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

NUYU Juice Bar Fruitvale, 2402 Fruitvale Blvd., is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and closed on Sunday.

Both NUYU locations have a drive-thru, and are happy to accommodate customers with allergies.

Brandhagen said the business focuses on fresh, nutritious ingredients to improve mental and physical well-being.

What kind of items do you offer for healthy-minded customers?

Fiddle’s (Martinez): We offer a wide variety of cold-pressed juices all made with natural ingredients and no added preservatives or sugars. We bottle all of our juices so that being healthy can be easy on the go. We’re also available on Uber Eats if you don’t have time to stop in.

NUYU (Brandhagen): At NUYU, every item is meticulously crafted with your health in mind. Whether you’re craving a burst of greens in our Theory Juice or Absolute smoothie, seeking a protein boost from our protein avocado toast, or aiming for enhanced focus with our Lions Mane-infused smoothie bowl – we’ve got your health goals covered. Whatever you’re striving for, we’ve got the perfect, healthful option for you.

What’s your most popular drink? Food item?

Fiddle’s: The Mean Greens Juice is one of our most popular drinks during this time but coming in close are The Power Up and the Blue Sky. Our Classic Acai Bowl and Unicorn Smoothie Bowls are some of our customers favorites. Can’t forget our ginger shots either, they’re great for immunity and your metabolism.

NUYU: Our most popular juice is Method (green apple, cucumber, celery, kale, spinach, lime, ginger). Our most popular smoothie is Rad (banana, peanut butter, cocoa powder, agave, vanilla, almond mylk). Our most popular food item is the rice bowl (brown rice, romaine, spinach, cucumber, tomato, carrots, avocado), with the most popular dressing being our in-house white sauce (vegan mayo base with fresh lemon juice, garlic, and filtered water for consistency).

Any helpful hints for your customers?

Fiddle’s: Don’t give up on this healthy journey of yours. We are here to help and even work with individuals to get them into juice cleanse that fits their needs.

NUYU: Don’t hesitate to ask questions and share your health goals with us. We’re here to partner with you on your journey to well-being.

What’s your go-to order?

Fiddle’s: The Fiddle’s Beets is always my go to juice. Its earthy taste and amazing benefits help me get through some tough days where I need some extra energy.

NUYU: With so many delightful options, choosing a go-to order can be tough. At the moment, my favorite is the Method juice – a recent creation that’s gaining popularity – paired with a mouthwatering breakfast sandwich. Picture this: an English muffin, Local Beet savory vegan breakfast patty, vegan mayo, kale, avocado, red pepper flakes, salt, pepper, and a dash of garlic salt. It’s a combination that’s hard to beat.
